Recent Bake: Sourdough Discard Chocolate Chip Cookies
I've been having some hormonally-driven sugar cravings. I also feel like I haven't experienced bright, warm sunlight in a few weeks. In preparing my starter for the cinnamon rolls in another one of my posts, I had just enough sourdough starter discard to attempt a discard recipe. I decided very quickly it would need to be sweet rather than savory. We had a bag of semi-sweet chocolate morsels in the fridge, so chocolate chip cookies were the winner.


I loved how they came out. I will admit that I was impatient, so I didn't leave the dough to rest in the fridge overnight as the recipe recommends. It was more for like 30 minutes. Next time, I will be a better planner and execute this recipe with more forethought, so I will leave the dough overnight. The cookies struck the perfect balance for sweet and slightly savory: the decadence of the chocolate, the richness of the browned butter, and the tanginess of the sourdough.
